Hello, friends. I’m just back home, and recovering, from a most beautiful wedding, in which my son, Benjamin, and his beloved Jaci, tied the old knot. What good times we had!
Now I want to say that my novel, The Highway of Spirit and Bone, is going to be published in a few short weeks. I’m very excited that it’s finally going to be out in the world, and I’m hopeful that its reception will be favorable.
In brief, the novel is about two adult children who travel with their mother from Staten Island, NY to Flagstaff, AZ, where she will move in with a third sibling, who owns and manages a high-end adult living community there. The journey is not an easy one. Along the way, there are funny as well as harrowing incidents, encounters with a wide cast of all-American characters (including a jilted lover with a gun and another sibling, an estranged poet with plenty of secrets), gorgeous and hideous landscapes, and some truly bizarre interactions.
This quick summary doesn’t, I think, do the novel justice, but I hope it whets the appetite a little. A friend who read it during her own road trip in the west told me (I think she was being honest) that she couldn’t stop reading it and loved the characters— despite their significant flaws. I was delighted to hear that she especially loved Ma. She wanted to talk about who would play who in the movie version (!), and that was a fun conversation. Another friend said simply, a few months after having read it, “It’s stayed with me.”
Blurbs are coming soon, and a cover reveal, and then, well, we’ll see if we can garner some reviews, and of course we’ll see how sales go. I am optimistic, and anyway, whatever happens, it’s been a rewarding experience to write the novel and to have it find a small, local but very caring publisher, Lefora Publictions.
That’s it for now. Have a wonderful day.
Can't wait to read it!
Is there a way to figure out if I pre-ordered? My memory is not what it was...
